Computational Method for Tridimensional Reconstruction of Human Blastocysts
Acosta-Gomez et al., 2023
Currently, embryologists select embryos for transfer based on 2D microscope images, which limits their ability to see all features. This research developed a computer program that creates 3D models of embryos (blastocysts) from regular microscope videos. Like getting a CT scan instead of an X-ray, these 3D models reveal hidden details about embryo structure and quality that might predict pregnancy success better. The method uses existing lab equipment, making it affordable for clinics. By providing embryologists with more complete visual information, this technology could improve their ability to select the best embryos for transfer, potentially increasing IVF success rates.
